"We moved to VA 5 yrs ago and switched our 40+ year relationship with State Farm to this agency. I have been very happy overall, but our first claim here and first in almost 20 yrs, was for a faulty new refrigerator install that has been denied saying it was a leak over time (a week before the appliance company could get someone out here to determine why our ice maker wasn't producing ice & no visible water on the floor to alert us). East Coast Appliance did not connect the water line to the ice maker, but did connect the water line to the water source, causing a very small amount of water to squirt out the unconnected hose - so small that we never saw any water & we just assumed there was a clog somewhere in the line preventing water from getting to the ice maker. (We called State Farm after East Coast started ghosting us about taking responsibility for the faulty install.) We sent photos of the damage and fully explained the progression of events, including that the water had been squirting out for days before East Coast came out and discovered the problem. The claims adjuster assigned to us didn't contact us for many weeks after initially acknowledging our claim. The Shelly agency, which we finally contacted, said they had been trying to get updates from the claims agent with no luck, so told us if the repair was less than $10,000, the Shelly agency would handle it in-house and just issue a check, then go after East Coast as the responsibly party, so we thought it was a viable claim, assuming the agency had looked at our policy and seen it was covered. We followed their advice, got ServPro to come out and dry out the floors, got estimates to repair and submitted those (More than $10,000 when you included ServPro's bill) More weeks went by with no updates from either of them and then we got a call from our claims agent apologizing for the massive delays and saying our claim was denied, which Shelly agency said they would appeal and no follow-up since then. This was now 4 months since the bad install. I am not happy with the delays, that no one told us up front it wasn't covered and the lack of communication throughout."
